When you're 20-something the New Year starts in January. There are parties to celebrate it and resolutions to keep as the year stretches out before you in an unwritten adventure. But if you're a parent like me, you may find that January has lost some of its allure as a time of new beginnings.
Why I Start My Year in September
As a mom, September is the best time for a fresh start. The kids are back in school and you know they will be busy until late afternoon five days a week. Summer vacations, cookouts, and family reunions have passed and the holidays are far enough away that you don't have to worry about them yet.
Now is the time to make those New Year's resolutions! Restore order to your home, claim an hour to go to the gym, start a new job. Do it now before the holidays sneak up on you. Do it now before those teacher conferences and recitals start filling your calendar. Make September your time for a fresh start!
Working from Home Amplifies the September Effect!
So how do you make the most of this almost magical month? Work from home if you can. If you don't work from home now, September is a good time to start.
As a work-at-home mom I feel like I've won the lottery of time in September. All the work I put into carving out time for work and the kids in the summer is rewarded with an abundance of time when the kids go back to school.
All at once, I can enjoy the peace and quiet of an empty house while I work. I feel like super woman easily bounding from task to task and wrapping everything up in time to pick my kids up from school. I can even get in a walk for some fresh air.
