An inside look at becoming a small business owner

Winnifer, Ohio, joined in 2013

Building a business
When someone asks me what I do for a living, I tell them I'm the COO of a small business.
There is no better feeling than knowing you are in control of your own business.

Winnifer didn’t know much about small home business opportunities. In fact, she thought they were all scams. Then she took a skill-building class and learned that many graduates of that program have become small business owners with Liveops.

Winnifer took advantage of the opportunities and support Liveops offers to start her small business: providing customer support from home.

What is it like to be a small business owner?

“There is no better feeling than knowing you are in control of your own business. Knowing that I’m part of a company that is willing to help me succeed and give me the chance to grow gives me confidence that I can succeed at everything I put my mind to.

I primarily work the insurance claims line, which I have done for the last three years. Being able to assist people in their time of need is a fulfilling duty.

I look at this as my business and responsibility. I have a set schedule that I follow with some variation. If I worked for a brick-and-mortar company, I would have to uphold certain standards, so I look at being an independent agent the same way.

My day usually starts around 7:00 a.m. My husband makes me a pot of coffee before he leaves for work. I’m able to have a few cups while checking my messages and other things I might have missed the day before. Normally I work 9:10 a.m. through 12:09 p.m., then take an hour lunch break and get dressed. I return and work until 14:09 or 2:09 p.m. My work days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. If there is a ramp, I will also work on a Saturday.”
